CIRCA MAISON: STYLING WITH PERSONALITY
Emily Grant, owner of the styling shop and design studio Circa Maison, knows that the exact placement of the accessories in an interior can make or break the entire room. Her multifaceted background proves the point—she’s got experience in set designing, prop and photo styling, visual merchandising, interior styling, and personal shopping.
A Greenville native, Grant pursued her career in Atlanta, which landed her styling work with Bobby Berk, the affable decorator on the Netflix TV show Queer Eye, as well as with notable interior designer Michel Smith Boyd, host of HGTV’s show Luxe for Less. More work followed, including styling advertising campaigns for well-known cosmetics and children’s toy companies… continue reading article.

A NEW LEAF
Gin, once the notorious spirit that personified the Roaring Twenties, is set for a trendy resurgence, and Juniper, Greenville’s first and only gin bar, is leading the way. A discreet elevator next to the AC Hotel’s lobby transports patrons to a magical garden-in-the-sky. Walk through an enchanting ivy-and-flower-filled trellis entrance, and Juniper reveals its expansive vistas—astounding views in every direction—the Blue Ridge Mountains, Reedy River Falls, Main Street, and Cleveland Park.
The 16,000-square-foot, open-air rooftop is at once sprawling but ingeniously designed to flow into four locations, each with its own greenery-inspired vibe: The Secret Garden (for al fresco cocktails on the lawn), The Fire Box (for late-night pizza around fire pits), The Greenhouse (for eclectic small-plate dining), and Jasmine Hall (for sophisticated events). … continue reading article.

MODERN ENGLISH
Interior designer Katie Skoloff upends the English manor house.
“I designed our house on a napkin . . . on our honeymoon,” says Katie Skoloff of In Site Designs. The Greenville-based interior designer, who has handled extensive commercial and residential projects all over the region, was actually a bit timid to design her own home and wanted an architect for the job. Her new husband Eric was convinced she could do it.
At first, she was intimidated by the Woodland Forest property that they purchased before getting married, as the land was nestled in an established, stately neighborhood dominated by large, historic homes. However, Skoloff’s two-story, 5,000-square-foot, five-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath home is both the perfect combination of outward formality and inner contemporary appeal… continue reading article.

MODERN MERCANTILE
The pot-belly stove is gone, but the homemade pies and welcoming vibes remain. Hester General Store is set on recapturing that bit of Americana from the time it served as a place of community and commerce for those who needed anything from farm equipment to flour.
Originally founded in Easley in 1893 by the Hester family, the new bakery and mercantile venture is a dream come true for owner, Katie Chaney. The former tech consultant, who studied art history at Wofford College, fell in love with the building and its history from the moment she saw it. Now restored, the formerly dilapidated structure can take its rightful place on the National Register of Historic Places.… continue reading article.

FREEZE FRAME
Daniel Howell is cool. Well, not just cool but actually freezing because he works in temperatures as low as 10 degrees. Outfitted in Truewerk winter gear—good up to 40 below—and his sub-zero Baffin work boots, he’s wielding a modified 25-inch chainsaw as he swiftly carves a block of ice.
“We can create anything you wish for in ice. We’ve done dolphins, polar bears, penguins, dogs, birds, liquor luges, ice bars, ice curtains, company logos, you name it. Our clients are everyone from country clubs and golf courses to fraternities and sororities. We also have a lot of restaurant clients, and of course, we do a lot of bachelorette parties, weddings, balls, galas, charity events, and private parties, too.”...continue reading article.
